Series 2:
Abstract spatiality, sensorial aspects of matter.
1979-1980
This series sprang out of an uncontrollable urge to
do a painting in a really intense, totally saturated cadmium
yellow. This kicked off the study of another dimension I hadn’t
addressed in the previous series: spatiality.
To do this, I forced form even further, to the extent
that it either disappeared altogether or became an abstract
geometric limit, a container for the saturated charge of pure
color, applied with pigments mixed with a little latex and water
on unprimed canvas impregnated on the back with sealer.
The qualities of pure color, together with the tactile
sensations of the pigments mixed with a little latex and water
on much bigger supports, added a sensation of spatiality to
the paintings in this series.
